In adulthood, when people venture into the world of triathlon, many of them aspire to complete an IronMan event. Some call it quits once they achieve the prestigious ‘IronMan’ title. But what about the rest? What could be their next possible goal? For some, it’s about finishing the full distance in under 10 hours and earning a coveted membership in the SUB10 club.

But what comes after that? What continues to drive you?

For countless triathletes, the answer is Kona Championship. Kona represents the pinnacle of achievement. In every IronMan event worldwide, there are typically 30 to 50 slots allocated for Kona qualification. This translates to an average of 2 to 5 slots per age group. In other words, you need to be among the top 3 to 5 in your age group to secure a slot.

This aspiration is the true dream of the vast majority of triathletes. They invest not only money but also an immense amount of time (time squared) and unwavering focus into this pursuit. Achieving this goal often requires training like a professional athlete.

Traditionally, the World Championship is held in Kona, the birthplace of triathlon. However, in 2023, things have taken a different turn. For the first time, the world’s best athletes will gather in Nice, France, to participate in this spectacular event.

Kona has historically been an exceptionally expensive and time-consuming destination to reach. This year, I am fortunate to be in Nice and witness the event with my own eyes. I extend my support to my friends from Ukraine and wish every athlete the best of luck here. Each one has their own unique goal, and each has persevered through an incredibly challenging journey. Let’s unite in supporting the best of the best.
